Story Time
Autumn Story Times begin the week of September 12th. There will be Story time every week on Mondays at 4:00 PM and on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM. Starting on Wednesday, September 14th we will have our 10:30 story time in collaboration with Early Head Start every other week- it is a great way to meet other families. We are so excited to share stories, songs and finger plays with our friends together.
On the alternate weeks beginning September 21st we will have Story Time with stories, songs, crafts, and activities. All ages are welcome to our Story Times!
On Wednesday, September 21st, the Fire Department will visit our 10:30 Story Time!
A group of families are interested in having an early childhood homeschool group and the Barton Library will be supporting that through activities at Story Time and by finding resources for families. We are putting together a lending library of materials with an early literacy, STEM or creativity focus. Please let us know if there is a specific topic you would like support with. Stop by the library on Monday (2-5), Tuesday (10-2), or Wednesday (10-5) to learn more or email Children’s Services at bartonkidsread@gmail.com.
Bookbags to Go
Our Story Time To Go bookbags have been updated and can be borrowed for two weeks. Each themed bag contains 3-4 books, a hands-on activity, rhymes and songs, and a related art project. New bags for summer are In the Garden and At the Seashore. Call the library Mondays (2-5), Tuesdays (10-2), or Wednesdays (10-5) and or email us at bartonkidsread@gmail.com to reserve a book bag. We would love to see you in the library and we are happy to bring a bit of the library to you!
Visit the Library and See What’s New
The Children’s Room is a busy place with books for all ages! We have added new board books for toddlers, picture books and early readers. Our graphic novel section keeps growing, often because of the great recommendations our readers make. Our non-fiction section has a new “bookstore” look with color-coded categories that make browsing and locating the books you want much easier! Many non-fiction picture books are now in the non-fiction section so be sure to browse for great books for preschoolers. We are always happy to take suggestions for books or non-fiction topics you think need to be in our collection.
The new Golden Dome nominated books for 2022-23 include exciting books for 4th through 8th graders. Students who read five or more books during the school year are eligible to vote for the winning book. The voting for the best book takes place state-wide in mid-May. The books are available at the Barton Library and at the library at Barton Academy and Graded School as well.
Books for Parents, Caregivers and Teachers
Have you seen the shelves for adults in the Children’s Room? Browse the books to find resources including children’s books about difficult topics. We are adding to the collection and your suggestions are welcome!
Homeschooling Families
Are you homeschooling this year or considering it? The Barton Library would like to help! Let us know your curriculum needs and we will do our best to find materials that work for you. Our newly arranged non-fiction section has many new books and we are happy to take suggestions. We are also happy to connect you with resources in our community like the Old Stone House Museum. Let the library enrich your homeschool program.
