The Community Seed Exchange (CSE) will open on Saturday, February 28th for the 2026 growing season. During the winter months we checked seeds for viability and solicited donations from wonderful seed companies and home gardeners. We are still accepting donations of seeds that you have collected in your garden or in the wild. We have envelopes available that can be picked up at the library. We will accept your donations of extra seeds if they are from a non-GMO company and within viability limits. We can provide you with a chart to judge viability for the seeds in your collection if you email us at nekseeds@gmail.com. Remember we also have a collection of inspiring gardening books at the library including Seed Saver’s Exchange’s book, The Seed Garden.
The CSE is a UVM Extension Master Gardener project and a free public service of the Barton Public Library. We are committed to increasing the ability of home gardeners and homesteaders to provide their own food, to encourage locally adapted seed varieties, and to foster a community of sharing. It is open to all residents of the Northeast Kingdom and offers a wide assortment of vegetable, herb and flower seeds donated by many seed companies. For more information email the CSE at nekseeds@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you when the Community Seed Exchange opens on Saturday, February 28th!
